The history of a generation is like a collection of memoirs and biographies, in which the authors are themselves the descendants of that generation. Each of them presents their biographies through the prism of their own experiences and experiences. History is written over many decades, encompasses different locations and crosses certain events, which obviously leave their mark.

The trials strengthened her and she learned to enjoy life
Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother – she had the great blessing to see the third generation. At the age of 72, Raisa feels happy with her family. “I am pleased and fulfilled. I have a beautiful and united family, we help and support each other”, she says.
When respect is above the salt, love is at home. This can also be read in their relationships – unity, respect and a lot of love. I couldn’t overlook Svetlana and Olga’s admiration for Raisa.
She spent her childhood in Buciumeni village – a beautiful village, located on the bank of the Prut River. She completed ten classes at the village school, and when she turned 14, her mother died, due to a health problem.
Trials did not overlook her, and life did not prepare for her one of the easiest ways. She got married at the age of 22 and has two children – Svetlana and Anatol, who currently lives far from home. After four years of marriage, she was widowed, with two young children, aged 3 and 1, respectively. She was only 26 at the time.
After five years, she started her activity at the carpet factory in Ungheni – the largest carpet manufacturer in the western part of Europe. Here she worked for 20 years as a supervisor in the production department.
Location changes, the story continues
We will end our story on the bank of the Prut River, in the city of Ungheni, where three decades ago, the first Bridge of Flowers took place. Then, for the first time after the Second World War, the Romanian-Soviet border could be crossed without documents.
Here, Taniusha told us some of the time she spent with her great-grandmother Raisa, about the teachers and the children from the kindergarten and, of course, about her culinary skills. She likes it here, yet she misses her grandmother. Even though they see each other less often, they say good night by phone every night.

We will start the journey in Codrii
Our story begins in the Scientific Natural Reserve “Plaiul Fagului”, a representative area in the Moldovan Codrii, Radenii-Vechi village.
The fresh and cold morning air, which only in the woods you can feel, a living courtyard, filled with flowers and fragmented by steps, a welcoming house and the shadow of an old walnut tree, under which a table and two long chairs, from those that you meet only in rural areas, were waiting for us. They invited us to have breakfast together. I had four generations in front of me: great-grandmother Raisa, grandmother Svetlana, niece Olga and great-granddaughter Taniusha. Each had a special story, even Taniusha – a short one, of 5 years.
From here we will begin to write the story of Raisa Shiokina`s family – a story that went through several historical events, a period in which our country was living a national revival. We were at Svetlana’s house. It happened that the path of her life separated from that of her husband 20 years ago, and now she lives with her second husband. Her daughter Olga and granddaughter Taniusha live with Raisa, where Olga works and Taniusha goes to kindergarten.

“I like to prepare food with Grandma Raia”, as she calls her, “especially to make baking together. A lot of times, we make pies. We go to the park where it’s very interesting. That’s where I jump on the trampoline and play with other kids.”
We also visited the famous central park in the city, known as the French Park. We were impressed by the variety and originality of the stone and wooden sculptures, by the conditions and playgrounds for children. We met the sunset also here in the company of this pleasant family. Then they served us a tasty dinner, after which we took the road home.
History is written, and some events are forgotten, but what will remain is the time spent with the family, the long summer days and the frosty winters that gather everyone near the fireplace, the love of the parents and the table full of memories of the grandmother, the evenings when the children fall asleep with the stories whispered by her. The true values that a generation can transmit to the one who comes after it are the teachings that build relationships, love and self-giving, personal integrity and dignity. These are the values that form the backbone of the generation.
